Members of Mid Suffolk Brass are joining other brass band representatives for a spring tour of Amiens France in early April 2018, following the successful visit of the French National Brass Champions Orchestre de Cuivres d’Amiens to Stowmarket and the surrounding area last year.
32 players from Boxted Methodist Silver Band (Essex), East of England Coop Band, Leiston Royal British Legion, Long Melford Silver Band, Mid Suffolk Brass, Stowmarket Concert Band, and Woodbridge Excelsior will come together to form “Anglia Brass”. They will perform 3 concerts in Amiens and the Picardy area all wearing the uniform of their respective band.
The history of some of the represented bands attending date back to before WW1 with almost their entire band members going off to fight, some never to return, others on return were unable to play music again due to injuries sustained.
Whilst visiting the Battlefields of WW1 the members will lay a wreath in remembrance of fellow musicians that gave the lives in sacrifice at the Thiepval war memorial, 100 years since the end of cessations. The band will also attend a civic reception with the Mayor of Amiens
It is unprecedented that members from different bands, have come together to form a tour band to promote the Brass Band community and the region of East Anglian. If you play a Brass instrument or would like to learn then please get in touch with any of the bands mentioned via their websites.
Welcome to The Band of The Royal British Legion Leiston
Welcome to The Band of The Royal British Legion Leiston, based in Suffolk. We are a social brass band run entirely by volunteers, most of whom also play in the band. Although affiliated to The Royal British Legion, the Band derives no financial benefit and is entirely self-supporting. All management, tuition and support is freely given by band members and instructors on a voluntary basis.
We rehearse at the Ex-Service Club, in Victory Road, Leiston, Suffolk, IP16 4DQ on Monday and Thursday evenings from 8.15 to 9.45pm and we also operate a Training Band for learners of all ages between 7.00 and 8.00pm on the same days.
